Recently called “the body positive fitness guru we all want and need,” by Scary Mommy, Alyssa came to CrossFit after years as an athlete, then years of recovery from a very serious injury. She also landed here after working as a sexuality and relationship advocate, digging into meaty issues around shame, agency and expectations. Alyssa’s tough-love and outspoken nature landed her in the national spotlight as a writer and speaker about body-issues, and as a frequent guest on New Day Northwest, in Seattle, speaking about fitness and body myths. You can check out her writing on everything under the sun on her eponymous blog.

All of those things combine to make private sessions with Alyssa as much about life-coaching as anything else. In fact, even if “all your doing” is lifting with her, she’s gonna dig deep into fears, expectations and how to control inner chaos in order to find pure power. (She does not do small talk. Like, that setting simply wasn’t installed when the factory assembled her.) Generally speaking, Alyssa’s strength is general overhauls and jumpstarts. She likes working with people who are doing a deep-dig into their bodies, getting out of ruts, facing change, recovering from injury and dealing with fear.

She also likes working with serious Olympic Weightlifters, whether you want to compete or not, though she has a solid stable of folks who compete nationally.

Fitness Goal Setting

It’s hard to find focus on who you really are and what really brings you joy when the media around us is just telling us that we should be skinny and sexy. Alyssa will work with you to identify what brings you joy, as well as what fears hold you back, and design a set of goals that can empower you. At the end of 3 sessions you will have a plan of attack that will include small achievable goals, and at least one stretch goal, as well as a small list of habits to form and habits to break. Each session is 45 minutes, with expected email and phone follow-up.

Overall Overhauls

Stuck in a rut and don’t even have any idea how to start getting out? Let’s dig deep into all of it: nutrition, fitness, friends, finances, and find some handholds to get you unstuck. There’s no one-size fits all approach here, and these sessions are not intended to be a lifelong relationship. Alyssa will work to set you on a path from which you can create a more tangible action plan. This may feed into a goal-setting series, and often leads to referrals to experts in whatever area is holding you back. Alyssa is not a magician, just a very well-connected and powerful spark-plug for your soul.

Figuring out Food

Get started on the emotional and habitual aspect of how you eat. We’ll look at when and what you’re eating that is impacting your overall health and energy. This is NOT a nutritional consult, so much as a food / feeling consult. We’ll create concrete challenges and plans that will get you ready to take your nutrition to the next level. Then you’ll be referred to the certified Nutritionist that meets your personal needs the best. Food is the most important gift you can give your body, let’s make sure it’s the right fit for you.

Private Parties

Some of the best conversations and biggest breakthroughs happen with friends. But sometimes we need someone to help guide the conversation and loosen everyone up. These private get-togethers happen in your home, you provide snacks and drinks, and Alyssa will come facilitate a talk about whatever you want related to bodies. Media myths? Goal setting? Shame and fear reduction? Body acceptance? You name it. Having done lots of these, the best size is at least 6 people, no more than 10. But beyond that, it’s up to you.
